The owner of a 2015 Toyota Camry parked their car in front of their home. The next morning when they attempted to use the Camry to go to work they discovered it missing. They contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to report their Camry stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers. The owner advised the deputy that they had left the Camry unlocked, with the keys and their wallet left in the center console.
The next day, while on routine patrol, a Palm Beach County SO deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Camry on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The deputy began tracking the stolen Camry by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. Apparently this was a vehicle that had fled from deputies earlier when they had observed it. The deputy, along with their backup, located the 4-door sedan abandoned and unoccupied in the 4500 block of Gulfstream Road at the end of the road leading to the canal bank. The Camry was backed into an empty lot between some bushes in an attempt to conceal the vehicle. The Camry was recovered, towed to the owner’s home, where it was released to the owner, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2015 Toyota Camry in January 2015 at Royal Palm Toyota in West Palm Beach, Florida.
