LoJack® System Helps Commerce City Police Department Recover Stolen Chevrolet Trailblazer

The owners of a Chevrolet Trailblazer contacted the Commerce City Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. The theft had occurred while they were at a recreation center. The lock to one of their lockers had been cut and a wallet and keys were stolen. Other persons at the recreation center had also had items stolen from their lockers. A police officer verified the theft and had the vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet SUV.
It was soon discovered that one of the victim’s credit cards had been used to withdraw cash from an ATM immediately after the theft had occurred. One of the victims had the PIN to the credit card written down on a paper in the stolen wallet.
Later officers from several law enforcement agencies, including the Commerce City PD, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Trailblazer with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.
Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC officers with the Commerce City PD tracked the Chevrolet to the 7100 block of Quebec Street. There they found the Chevrolet occupied by a female who when contacted became very uncooperative and attempted to start the SUV and escape. She was, however, taken into custody without incident, other than a broken window in the Chevrolet so that the officers could unlock the door. The Chevrolet was otherwise undamaged.
In addition to being charged with Felony Theft by Receiving for the stolen Chevrolet the suspect was found to be in possession of heroin and user paraphernalia. Additionally, a .40 cal. Smith & Wesson pistol stolen in Aurora as well as identification and credit cards belonging to other people taken at various other locations in the Denver metro area was found in the stolen Trailblazer. These charges will also be added. The suspect was found to be on probation for a previous theft charge.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Trailblazer in July 2009 at AutoNation Chevrolet North in Denver, Colorado.
