The owners of a 1993 Honda Civic contacted the Rialto Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

A short while later a Canine officer from the Fontana Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Additionally auto theft detectives responded to the area of the 210 Freeway and State St as well as San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office Air 40King. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the ground units were informed that the air ship had tracked and located the Honda to a residence in the 2100 block of Mallory St. The air ship located the Honda parked in the rear yard of that location. Surveillance was established and a short time later, the detectives noticed a Nissan truck drive by the residence and noted the license plate did not match the commercial vehicle as the plate was registered to a sedan. Officers followed that Nissan and observed it pull to a parking lot where two individuals exited. The Nissan was subsequently stopped and found to be stolen out of San Bernardino Police Department. All three subjects were detained.

At the location on Mallory, a detective observed the stolen Honda Civic drive off the property being followed by a Toyota Camry. The detective requested Air 40king to return and additional ground units from the San Bernardino PD. Then a traffic stop was attempted and both vehicles fled. The Honda was subsequently forced to stop on a dead end street where the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The driver of the Camry was apprehended by assisting officers. In all four (4) suspects were booked for various felonies and misdemeanors.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in March 1999 at Crystal Chrysler Center in Cathedral City, California.
