The owner of a BMW X5 contacted the San Diego Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from his residence in the city of San Diego.

The San Diego PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

A short while later, officers from the San Diego PD Air unit (ABLE) picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the BMW to a residential neighborhood located in the 4700 block of Mt. Royale Ave in San Diego. ABLE directed ground units to the area for the recovery.

The LoJack® System was installed in the BMW X5 in October 2011 at BMW of San Diego in California.
