LoJack® System Helps Albuquerque Police Department Recover a Stolen Honda Civic

The owner of a 1998 Honda Civic called the Albuquerque Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.
Just under an hour after the activation, officers with the Albuquerque PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the Honda was tracked and found to be mobile. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the Honda failed to yield and fled while driving in an extreme reckless manner.
Officers backed off from the stolen Honda and the Albuquerque PD Air Support Unit, Air5, continued the surveillance. Air5 advised ground units the Honda was still driving with total disregard of public safety even though ground units were not visible to the stolen Honda. The Honda attempted to make an illegal U-turn resulting in a slight collision with another vehicle. The occupants of the Honda exited and ran on foot to avoid capture but were not successful. Officers apprehended both offenders and recovered the stolen Honda. The Honda was processed for evidence and released to the happy owners at the scene. The current Honda owner did not know their Honda had LoJack but were grateful it did.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in July 1998 at Honda World in Downey, California.
