LoJack® System Helps California Highway Patrol Contra Costa County Auto Theft Task Force Recover Stolen Honda Civic

The owners of a 2015 Honda Civic contacted the California Highway Patrol Contra Costa Area to report that their vehicle was stolen. The victim stated they were unloading groceries from the Honda and when they walked into the residence and came back out the vehicle had been stolen. The keys were in the Honda.
The CHP verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.
Sometime later officers from the CHP Auto Theft Task Force picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Honda to an address in the 1900 block of Mt. Hampton Street in Antioch. Indications were the Honda was in a closed garage. Officers secured the scene and obtained a search warrant for the garage.
The officers then served the warrant, opened the garage and found the Honda inside. The Honda was intact and not stripped. The owner of the garage was not home but was identified and it was determined he has outstanding felony warrants and priors for auto theft. Investigators are obtaining another felony warrant for this current case.
The Honda was towed and stored to be processed for finger prints and then released to the owner.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in June 2015 at Hendrick Honda of El Cerrito in California.
