LoJack® System Helps Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Recover Stolen Toyota Camry

The owners of a 2009 Toyota Camry contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Camry.
A short while later a deputy from the LASD Industry Station picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Camry with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. The deputy requested assistance from the LASD Aero Bureau having Air-29 respond to the area of West Covina. Flight deputies directed the deputy to a parking lot in West Covina which belonged to a local park. As the deputy arrived citizens approached, asked if the deputy was searching for the occupants of the Toyota Camry and pointed to three males running up a trail from the Camry. Assisting deputies arrived and apprehended four (4) male juveniles. A search of the suspected driver resulted in locating the ignition key to the stolen Toyota. This subject admitted he had located the key to the Camry on a table in his Grandmother’s home and decided to take the car. This subject was later detained in Juvenile Hall. The other juveniles were released to their respective parents. The undamaged Toyota was released to the owner.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Camry in June 2011 at Wondries Ford in Alhambra, California.
