LoJack® System Helps San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department Recover Stolen Mini Cooper

The owners of a 2016 Mini Cooper contacted the West Covina Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mini Cooper.
A short while later the Ontario Police Department dispatchers contacted the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department Rancho Station and advised that their Air ship was picking up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mini Cooper with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. The SBSD Rancho deputies then began picking up the same signal and tracked it to the area of Baker Ave where a sergeant observed the Mini Cooper exiting a gas station. Assisting deputies arrived and conducted a “high risk” traffic stop at Baker Ave and Princeton taking the lone male adult into custody without further incident. The owner of the Mini Cooper was contacted and advised that his Mini had been recovered with no damage and was available for release. The suspect, who was on Felony Probation, was later booked for grand theft auto as well as other violations.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Mini Cooper in February 2016 at Mini of Ontario in California.
