LoJack® System Helps Los Angeles Police Department Recover Stolen Chrysler 300

The owner of a 2005 Chrysler 300 contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Southeast Division to report that his vehicle was stolen by a named suspect who apparently had taken the car keys from a table top while visiting with the victim. When the victim realized this he noted the Chrysler was gone from where he had parked and secured it. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chrysler.
A short while later the LAPD Air-3 flight officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chrysler with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, Air-3 tracked the Chrysler to the area of 105th St and Budlong Ave. and radioed to ground units they were observing a vehicle matching the description traveling westbound in an alley between 104th and 105th. An LAPD Metro unit working this heavy “gang” area responded and affected a felony traffic stop on the Chrysler after confirming the license. A male and female were taken into custody without further incident. During the field investigation the driver suspect was identified as the named suspect in addition and was taken to the southeast station and booked for the theft. During the booking search a small bindle containing white powder resembling cocaine was removed from his sock. The female suspect had two outstanding felony warrants for her arrest. She was booked for those warrants and held. The Chrysler was later returned to the owner in the field. Case referred to station detectives.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Chrysler 300 in May 2005 via Direct Sales.
