The owner of a 2011 Audi Q5 contacted the Chicago Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from the 3700 block of N Newcastle Ave on Chicago’s northwest side. The victim had two unknown individuals respond to an internet ad wherein he had placed his Audi for sale. One entered his Audi while it was running and fled with the other following in the car they had arrived in.  The Chicago PD after determining the theft was bonifide entered the Audi into NCIC which automatically activates the LoJack tracking unit concealed within the stolen vehicle.

A short time later police officers from the Calumet City Police Department and the Riverdale Police Department (south suburbs of Chicago) picked up the audible and directional cues being broadcast from the stolen Audi Q5 with the LoJack Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the Riverdale PD tracked the stolen Audi to the 14700 block of South Justine Ave in Harvey where it was recovered unoccupied less than an hour after it was taken in the scam. Police investigation into this theft and recovery continues.

Due to LoJack being installed in this 2011 Audi Q5 the vehicle was recovered less than an hour after it was stolen undamaged. The Audi was returned to the grateful owner before it could be re-tagged, cloned, stripped, or used in a crime.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Audi Q5 in May 2014 at Commonwealth Audi in Santa Ana, California.
