LoJack® System Helps West Covina Police Department Recover Stolen Dodge Ram 1500

The dealership owners of a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Identity theft/fraud bureau to report that their vehicle was stolen by means of identity theft. This dealership is part of a program where vehicles are Pre-Installed with LoJack® Systems. Detectives verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge Ram 1500.
Within less than 27 minutes officers from the West Covina Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge Ram with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, they tracked the Dodge to a service station on Azusa Ave south of Garvey Ave city of West Covina. There they observed that the Dodge was occupied by one male adult who was immediately detained without further incident. With coordination through Police Dispatch, contact was made with the handling LASD detective who responded to the Police Department. According to the LASD detective, suspects had used identification of another person to purchase the vehicle. Further the Dodge had large extra fuel tanks built into the frame for the purpose of stealing fuel from service stations. This incident is part of an Eastern European organized crime ring. The suspect was interviewed by the detective who will handle this case to completion.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Ram 1500 in November 2014 at Rydell Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Van Nuys, California.
