LoJack® System Helps Los Angeles World Police Department LAX Recover Stolen Honda Civic

The owners of a 2013 Honda Civic contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Walnut Station to report that their vehicle was stolen by an unknown suspect. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.
A short while later officers from the Los Angeles World Airport Police (LAX) were training on the use of LoJack tracking and had just finished when the Senior Lead Officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda Civic with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. He immediately alerted the other units who had left a field de-briefing as to the active LoJack signal just received. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Honda to a service station on Arbor Vitae and observed the stolen Honda Civic. They then observed a male adult exiting the Honda walking into the fast food store linked to the service station. At that time, the suspect observed the police units closing in then fled on foot. The suspect jumped over a block wall but apparently could not quite make it and fell flat on his face. The suspect got up and ran to a second wall and jumped over it. Officers had been alerted by a neighbor that the suspect was hiding behind a trash container. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was later booked for driving a stolen vehicle without owner’s consent (a felony). The undamaged Honda was towed and stored for safe keeping.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in October 2013 at Sierra Honda in Monrovia, California.
