LoJack® System Helps Los Angeles Police Department Recover Stolen Toyota Corolla

The owners of a 2006 Toyota Corolla contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Wilshire Division to report that their vehicle was stolen.

The LAPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short time later, the LAPD Olympic patrol officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Toyota to the area of 3rd Street and Grand View.  The officers observed the Toyota and attempted a traffic stop. The suspect failed to comply and a vehicle pursuit ensued. At the termination of the pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody for auto theft related charges without further incident. Two passengers inside the Toyota were released.

The Toyota was impounded for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Corolla in September 2005 by Claremont Toyota in California.
