The owners of a 2013 Toyota Yaris contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Hollywood Division to report that their vehicle was stolen.

The LAPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

The LAPD Hollywood patrol officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Toyota to the area of Santa Monica Blvd and Kingsley Drive. The Toyota was located parked on the street with paper plates. Officers observed a suspect walk up to the driver’s side of the Toyota. The officers then made contact with the suspect and two passengers inside of the Toyota. Investigation revealed that the Toyota’s ignition was punched and the suspect had a shaved key in his possession. The two passengers told the officers that the suspect had picked them both up and drove them to the location. The suspect was taken into custody for auto theft related charges with incident.

The Toyota was impounded for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota in June 2013 by Toyota of Downtown in Los Angeles, CA.
