The owner of a 2005 Land Rover Range Rover sport utility vehicle was abducted by his son and commanded to drive around Miami-Dade County. Eventually the owner crashed the sport utility vehicle into a tree, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The owner then contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department to report their kidnapping and the theft of their vehicle. The owner met with the responding officer, who immediately entered the vehicle into the state and federal crime information computers, even before they completed a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit.

Later that morning a Miami-Dade PD officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Range Rover on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC).  The officer began tracking the stolen Range Rover by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the Range Rover in the driveway in the 5000 block of S.W. 93rd Court and individuals near the vehicle. They detained the people and the sorted out the situation eventually identifying the owner’s son. The son was arrested for kidnapping and Grand Theft Auto, along with additional related charges. The suspect was transported to the Miami-Dade PD for further investigation and ultimately to the Dade County Jail. The Range Rover was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2005 Land Rover Range Rover sport utility vehicle in February 2005 by Land Rover of South Dade, Miami, Florida.
