The owners of a Chrysler PT Cruiser contacted the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by an unknown suspect. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chrysler PT Cruiser.

A short while later a deputy from the SBSO Apple Valley Station picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chrysler PT Cruiser with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputy tracked the Chrysler to the 12600 block of Quinnault Rd, city of Apple Valley, CA. The deputy requested back up at which time the Chrysler drove off containing one male driver. Approximately ¼ mile from the initial observation, a felony traffic stop was initiated and the driver was taken into custody without further incident as back up units arrived. Assisting deputies checked the recovered Chrysler and noted that some of the interior had been stripped and also noted a black bag and bicycle inside. The owner responded to the scene and indicated the damage to the Chrysler apparently had been done by the suspect also indicating the found property inside his car was not his. The suspect was later booked for vehicle theft related charges. The owner of the Chrysler PT Cruiser drove his vehicle home from the crime scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chrysler PT Cruiser in May 2005 at Victorville motors.
