The owners of a Honda Civic contacted the Bakersfield Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from in front of their residence. The Bakersfield PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.

About 12 minutes later an officer from the Bakersfield PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer tracked the Honda to the vicinity of 900 Chapman Street in east Bakersfield. The officer spotted the Honda and found it was occupied by an adult male. The officer made contact with the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

The Honda was recovered intact and undamaged; it was stored pending release to the owner. The male suspect was arrested for vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Civic in July 1998 at Power Honda of Costa Mesa, California.
