The owners of a Volkswagen Passat contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Harbor Station in the evening hours to report their vehicle was stolen.

The LAPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen.

A short while later deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Lomita station picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Volkswagen to the 1700 block of 252nd Street, Harbor City.  The deputies found the Volkswagen parked in a parking lot stall.  When the deputies approached the Volkswagen they discovered the vehicle was occupied.  When assisting deputies arrived the occupants were removed from the Volkswagen.  The driver of the Volkswagen admitted to taking the vehicle and was arrested.  The two passengers were released.  The undamaged Volkswagen was released to the owner at the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen Passat in August 2003 at McKenna Volkswagen in Huntington Beach, California.
