LoJack® System Helps Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force Recover Stolen Lincoln Welder

The foreman of a construction site contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that a rented 2008 Lincoln welder had been stolen from the job site near 7th Street and San Juan Avenue.
The police verified the theft and entered the equipment information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Lincoln welder.
Fifteen minutes later, officers from the Phoenix Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Lincoln welder with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Lincoln welder to a neighborhood near 19th Avenue and Madison Street in central Phoenix.
The uniform patrol officer located the Lincoln welder attached to a Nissan pickup parked on a side street. No suspects were observed in the Nissan pickup, so the officer requested undercover auto theft detectives to respond to the area. The 2004 Nissan pickup was also listed as stolen by the Phoenix PD. Detectives from the Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force responded and conducted a lengthy surveillance on the stolen Nissan and welder. No suspects returned to the Nissan and welder. The Lincoln welder and the 2004 Nissan pickup were later recovered and processed for evidence. The Lincoln welder and Nissan pickup were towed for safe keeping and later returned to the owners in good condition.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Lincoln Welder in June 2008.
