The owners of a 2008 Melroe Bobcat contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department to report that their construction equipment was stolen from a job site in Yorba Linda.

The OCSD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Melroe Bobcat.

Only 21 minutes later deputies from the OCSD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Bobcat with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Bobcat to a school district parking lot several blocks away. The deputy that located the Bobcat contacted two district employees.  They told him that the secure section of the parking lot is rented from the school district by another construction company. Phone calls into that construction company by the deputy were not answered.  The Melroe Bobcat was returned to its owner.  The OCSD contacted OCATT (regional taskforce) and turned the case over to them.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Melroe Bobcat in June 2008.
