The owner of this Caterpillar skid steer contacted the Kern County Sheriff’s Department and reported that their equipment had been stolen from a job site. The Kern County Sheriff’s Department verified the theft and entered the equipment information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the now stolen Caterpillar.

About eight hours after the LoJack® System was activated, the flight crew of a Kern County Sheriff’s Department helicopter picked up the silent signals from the LoJack® System on the LoJack® Police Tracking Computer installed in their aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack® computer, the flight crew tracked the equipment to a residential area near Johnson Avenue and Heath Road in Bakersfield. The equipment was spotted from the air, abandoned on the side of the road. The flight crew directed ground units to the area and the equipment was recovered undamaged. It was returned to the owner at the recovery scene.

The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Caterpillar by LoJack Commercial Sales in February of 2009.
