LoJack® System Helps Columbus Police Department Recover Stolen BMW 330

The owners of a BMW 300 contacted the Columbus Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen overnight. Their home was burglarized the day before and at that time they did not realize that the spare set of keys for the BMW was one of the items stolen by the suspects. The suspects apparently returned for the vehicle.
Columbus PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.
A short while later detectives with the Columbus P D Auto Theft Unit picked up the silent LoJack® homing signals from the stolen BMW with the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the detectives tracked the vehicle to residential area of Columbus.
It appeared that it was parked to “cool off”. Detectives set up a surveillance detail on the BMW in an effort to arrest the suspects. After some time, they decided to impound the vehicle for processing. The owner was not aware that the BMW had LoJack® on it and told detectives that he was very happy that the original purchaser had equipped the vehicle with it. The LoJack®System was installed in the BMW 300 in July 2003.
