LoJack® System Helps Los Angeles Sheriffs’ Department Recover Stolen Honda Civic

The owners of a 1998 Honda Civic contacted the Whittier Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the (make of vehicle).
A short while later a patrol unit from the LASD East LA area picked up the silent LoJack® homing signals from the stolen Honda with the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. That information was broadcast to LASD air ships who located the vehicle parked and unoccupied on Dennison St near Eastman Ave. Auto Theft detectives responded to the area and set up surveillance. Within a short time, 2 male suspects entered the stolen Honda and drove off with detectives following, giving the direction of travel to responding patrol units. Pre-stop coordination was initiated as the patrol unit followed the stolen Honda. As the backup units arrived, a felony traffic stop was initiated S/B 5 Freeway at Lakewood Blvd and two males were detained without further incident. Both suspects were arrested and booked into the County Jail system for VC 10851. (Note: the driver was on Felony Probation for Vehicle Theft.)
The LoJack®System was installed in the (Honda Civic) in January 1998.
