This case involves a Toyota Tacoma stolen on a recent Saturday in Bakersfield, CA. The thieves attempted to hide it ‘in plain sight’ by parking it in a crowded lot. This tactic would have made a visual search extremely difficult. The LoJack® system that was installed when the pickup was purchased led police to its exact location, allowing for a fast, safe, damage-free same-day recovery.

On May 31st, 2014, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Bakersfield Police Department and reported that their vehicle had been stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Tacoma, which was installed at Toyota of Riverside, CA.

A short while later, a deputy with the Kern County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen truck on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The deputy located the Toyota at a fast food restaurant in south Bakersfield, where it was parked and unoccupied. The undamaged Tacoma was retrieved and soon returned to its thankful owner.
