The owner of a 2015 Volkswagen Passat contacted the Rio Rancho Police Department to report their vehicle stolen.  The Rio Rancho PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen Passat.

Approximately 30 minutes after the activation, officers with the Albuquerque Police Department and officers with the Rio Rancho PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the LoJack signal to the area of Unser and McMahon.

The officers from both agencies shared this information in real time leading them to the stolen Volkswagen in a residential neighborhood.  Through the effective interagency teamwork the Volkswagen was quickly and safely recovered.  A crime scene technician from Albuquerque PD arrived on scene and processed the Volkswagen for evidence.  The owner was notified of the recovery and responded to the scene to take possession of their Volkswagen.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen Passat in April 2015 at University Motors Volkswagen and Mazda in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
