The owner of a 2017 Volkswagen Golf contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle s stolen.  The owner advised a known male subject possibly stole the Volkswagen.  The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen Golf.

Shortly after the activation, officers with the Albuquerque PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft.  The officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen in the area of Central and Coors.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officer tracked the LoJack signal to a residential neighborhood.

The Volkswagen was observed parked in the driveway under a carport.  Officers made contact at the residence and located the named suspect whom initially stole the Volkswagen.  The suspect was promptly taken into custody and the Volkswagen was recovered.  Officers notified the owner of the recovery and she responded to the scene.  The owner wished to prosecute the offender and happily drove away with her Volkswagen.  The offender was arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center for auto theft related charges.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen Golf in November 2016 at University Volkswagen & Mazda in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
