The owner of a 2018 Ford F150 pickup contacted the Austin Police Department to report his vehicle stolen. The owner met a woman and while he was checking into a hotel with her, she took his keys and stole his vehicle. The Austin PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford pickup.
A short while later officers from the Austin PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford pickup with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the stolen Ford pickup to the 9400 block of N. Lamar St, where they observed the vehicle parked in a store parking lot. There was a suspect sitting in the driver’s seat. Officers were able to apprehend and arrest the suspect before he could exit the stolen Ford pickup. The Ford pickup was recovered in good condition.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford F150 pickup in November 2018 at Leif Johnson Ford in Austin, TX.
