The owner of a 2004 Kia Sorento contacted the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office to report their vehicle was stolen.  The Bernalillo CSO verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Kia Sorento.

Approximately five minutes after the activation, officers with the Albuquerque Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Kia with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the LoJack signal to the area of Unser and Blake.

Officers located the stolen Kia in a mobile home park.  The Kia was in the parking lot and appeared to be unoccupied.  Officers established surveillance on the Kia and ultimately made the recovery.  The owner was notified of recovery and will take possession of their Kia before the offenders could use the vehicle to commit additional crimes.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Kia Sorento in March 2004 at Grand Auto Inc. in Thornton, Colorado.
