The owner of a 2003 Toyota Solara contacted the Las Cruces Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen.  The owner advised they parked the Toyota at an area hospital and upon their return they discovered the Toyota was missing.  The Las Cruces PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Solara.

An officer with the Las Cruces PD was off-duty and enroute to a funeral service when he picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Solara with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles.  Due to the officer being off-duty the information was passed along to dispatch for broadcast to all units.  Deputies with the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office also picked up the LoJack signal and initiated tracking.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the LoJack signal to the area of Roadrunner and Lohman.

Deputies located the Solara at the end of a parking lot backed into a parking space.  The vehicle was unoccupied and subsequently recovered.  Officers with Las Cruces PD arrived on scene and processed the Solara for evidence as they had taken the initial theft report.  The owner responded to the scene and happily took possession of their now recovered vehicle.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Solara in September 2003 at Metroplex Toyota in Duncanville, Texas.
