The owners of a 2009 GMC pickup contacted the Gilbert Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the driveway of their residence sometime overnight.  The owner’s other vehicle was left unlocked and parked in the driveway next to the GMC pickup.  Unknown suspects located a spare key to the GMC in the other vehicle and were able to drive off in the GMC. The Gilbert Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the GMC.

Twenty-three minutes later officers from the Chandler Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen GMC with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the vehicle to area of McQueen Road and Warner Road in Gilbert.

The Chandler Police Department officers located the stolen GMC unoccupied in an apartment complex parking lot in the 1300 block of west Warner Road in Gilbert.  The Gilbert Police Department was notified and officers responded to the scene.  A male subject was observed near the stolen GMC and was detained.   The subject was questioned and released.  The Gilbert Police Department officers recovered the stolen GMC and processed the vehicle for evidence.  The GMC was returned to the owners in good condition.

The LoJack® System was installed in the GMC Sierra in April 2009, at Colter Motors, Tempe, Arizona.
