The
owners of a 2009 Toyota Camry contacted the Tempe Police Department to report
that their vehicle was stolen sometime overnight from their residence. The Tempe Police Department verified the
theft and entered the vehicle information
into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.
Five minutes later, officers from the Tempe Police Department picked up the
silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking
Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues
from the PTC, the officers tracked the vehicle to a neighborhood in the area of
Alameda Drive and Elm Street.
The
Tempe Police Department officers
located the stolen Toyota unoccupied on a side street in the neighborhood. No suspects were observed in the area and the
keys were located in the vehicle. The
Toyota was recovered and processed for evidence. The vehicle was returned to the owners at the
scene in good condition.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Camry in February 2009, at AutoNation
Toyota, Tempe, Arizona.
