The
owners of a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup contacted the Phoenix Police Department to
report that their vehicle was stolen sometime overnight from the parking lot of
their apartment complex. The Phoenix
Police Department verified the theft and entered
the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which
automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed
in the Dodge.
A short while later, deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department and
officers from the Tolleson Police Department and the Phoenix Police Department picked
up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police
Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and
aircraft. Following the directional and
audible cues from the PTC, the officers and deputies tracked the vehicle to a
neighborhood near 67th Avenue and Roosevelt Street, approximately
seven miles from where it was reported stolen from.
The vehicle was located unoccupied, backed into the driveway of a residence in
the neighborhood. Phoenix Police
Department officers made contact with the occupants at the residence and
recovered the stolen Dodge pickup. No arrests
were made at this time with follow up investigation being conducted. The vehicle was processed for evidence and
was later returned to the owners in good condition.
This is the third time that this Dodge Ram pickup has been stolen, tracked, and recovered by the use of the LoJack® System.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Ram in January 2003, at Darner Chrysler – Plymouth, Mesa, Arizona
