LoJack System Helps Selma N.C., Police Department Recover Stolen Hyundai Taken in Newport News, VA, Armed Offender in Custody

The
owner of a 2013 Hyundai Elantra contacted the Newport News Police
Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the area of 9900 Jefferson
Avenue in Newport News, Virginia. Newport
News Police Radio dispatched an officer to
investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed
the complainant and surveyed the area for the subject vehicle. Investigation by
officer on scene found that the vehicle was stolen after it was left unattended
with the engine running and the keys in the ignition. When the officer was
unable to locate the vehicle, a stolen vehicle report was prepared. The officer
then arranged for the stolen vehicle information to be entered into the
state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2013 Hyundai Elantra.
A short while later, officers from the Selma Police Department in North
Carolina picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen 2013 Hyundai
Elantra with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers
(PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles. Following the directional and
audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the vehicle to a fast food
restaurant on US Highway 70E in Selma, North Carolina. At this location, detectives
observed the vehicle being operated by the theft suspect. A felony vehicle stop
was performed and the suspect was arrested. Search incident to arrest recovered
a handgun in possession of the suspect. The undamaged vehicle was recovered by
police, and the owner notified.
