The owners of a 2018 Melroe Skid Steer S570 contacted the Montgomery County Police Department to report that their skid steer was stolen from a construction site in the 7300 block of Calhoun Place in the Derwood area of Montgomery County, Maryland. Officers were dispatched to the location and upon arrival made contact with the owner, obtained the information on the skid steer and searched the area without success for the unit. Montgomery County Police verified the theft and entered the skid steer information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2018 Melroe Skid Steer S-570.
A short while later detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signals from the stolen Skid Steer with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the detectives tracked the backhoe to the area of 10900 Coppermine Road in the Woodsboro area of Montgomery County, Maryland. At that location, detectives observed the stolen Steer inside a barn. Contact was made with the property owner who allowed access to the barn. Detectives recovered the 2018 Melroe Skid Steer S570 and notified the owner. Investigation to continue.
