The owner of a 2003 Dodge Dakota contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen.  The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge Dakota.

Shortly after the activation, flight officers with the Albuquerque PD Air-5 picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dakota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the flight officers tracked the LoJack signal to the area of 2nd Street and Paseo del Norte.

The Dakota was observed driving throughout the Albuquerque Metro and surveillance was maintained by Air-5.  This information was relayed to the Officers on the ground.  The driver of the Dakota stopped and parked in the area of Eubank and Central.  The driver exited the Dakota and attempted to get away on foot but was quickly apprehended.  This subject was found to be a repeat auto theft offender.  The Dakota was processed for evidence and found to have a damaged driver lock and ignition.  The Dakota was towed from the scene and will be returned to the owner at a later time.  The offender was provided alternate transportation by law enforcement and returned to the Metropolitan Detention Center.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Dakota in October 2002 at Bankston Dodge in Frisco, Texas.
