The owner of a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Rio Rancho Police Department and the LoJack Call Center to report that his vehicle was stolen.  The owner advised the Chevrolet Silverado was stolen from a residence in the area of NM 528 and High Resort.  The Rio Rancho PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Shortly after the activation, officers with the Bernalillo Police Department and the Santa Ana Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the LoJack signal to the area of Cielo Vista in Bernalillo.

Officers with the Rio Rancho PD assisted in setting up a perimeter and flight deputies in Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Metro-1 assisted in tracking the Silverado from the air.  The stolen Silverado was located and as officers arrived a female occupant exited the vehicle and took off on foot in an attempt to elude capture.  This attempt was short lived by the offender as she was promptly captured and taken into custody.  Through further investigation this offender was discovered to have been recently released for auto theft charges.  She was subsequently reacquainted with handcuffs and incarceration.  Officers attempted to contact the owner to notify him of the recovery but with negative results.  The Silverado was recovered and towed from the scene for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado in June 2016 at Galles Chevrolet in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
