The owners of a 2003 Ford F250 pickup truck contacted the Oakland Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. The vehicle was taken in the overnight hours from in front of their residence on Santa Ray Avenue. The Oakland Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford F250.

A short while later, officers with the California Highway Patrol Air Operations Unit in a fixed wing aircraft were flying over the city of Oakland along Highway 13 when they were alerted to the stolen Ford F250 by the silent LoJack signal received with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the stolen truck was tracked to a residential area in the 1600 block of Mountain Boulevard, where it was observed parked at the side of the street.  A CHP Oakland Area ground patrol unit was notified and responded. The CHP ground unit confirmed the vehicle was unoccupied.

The stolen Ford F250 was recovered by the CHP Oakland Area officer and the vehicle was released to the owner at the scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2003 Ford F250 in December of 2002, at Ken Grody Ford, in Buena Park, CA.
