The owner of a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen.  The owner is a financial institution and advised the Chevrolet Malibu was stolen from their parking lot.  The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Malibu.

Shortly after the activation, officers with the Albuquerque PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Malibu with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft. The officer was on another call and could not initiate a track but notified dispatch.

Detectives with the Albuquerque PD Auto Theft Unit and Agents with the New Mexico State Police Auto Theft Unit (NM Auto Theft Task Force) heard the radio traffic and entered the area.  Following the directional and audible cues from their PTC, the ATTF personnel tracked the LoJack signal to the area of Lomas and University.

The Malibu was located in a large parking structure and observed backed into a parking stall.  The Malibu was found to be unoccupied and was subsequently recovered.  The owner was notified of the recovery and the Malibu will be returned to the business at a later date.  Detectives are currently working active leads in this stolen vehicle incident.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Malibu in May of 2017 at Galles Chevrolet in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
