The owners of a 2016 Acura MDX contacted the Lakewood Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen.  The owners were exiting their vehicle at their apartment complex when two unknown males rapidly approached them and pointed handguns at them.  They ordered the victims’ to surrender the keys to the Acura.  The owners complied at which time the suspects entered the Acura and sped off. Lakewood Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Acura.

A short while later officers from both East Cleveland Police Department and Cleveland Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Acura with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers determined that the vehicle was mobile and leaving the east side.

A broadcast was made and shortly after an officer with Cleveland PD picked up the signal on the west side of the city.  The officer tracked the stolen Acura to a residential area where he found it parked and unoccupied.  To further elude law enforcement, the license plates had been removed and replaced with an altered temporary tag.  It appeared that the suspects were allowing the car to “cool off”.

Because of the quick recovery the suspects were unable to strip the vehicle or use it to commit additional crimes.  The Acura was impounded for processing.  This matter is to be further investigated by the Lakewood Police Department Detective Bureau.

The LoJack® System was pre-installed in the Acura MDX in March 2016 at Airport Acura, Cleveland, Ohio.
