The owner of a 2004 Toyota Matrix contacted the Austin Police Dept to report that his vehicle had been stolen.    The owner parked his vehicle in his driveway and when he returned to it found it missing.  The owner had left a set of keys in the center console.  The Austin Police Dept verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

Eleven minutes later officers from the Austin Police Dept picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the stolen Toyota to 6100 block of Cameron Rd where they observed it traveling eastbound. When officers attempted to stop the stolen Toyota a chase ensued.  The stolen Toyota was eventually stopped and the two suspects inside jumped out and fled on foot.  They were not apprehended.   This is an ongoing investigation.  The Toyota was recovered in good condition.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Matrix in June of 2003 at Don McGill Toyota in Katy, TX.
