The owners of a 2019 Toyota Highlander reported the theft of two of their vehicles by means of Identity Theft from their dealership. The actual Thefts occurred on October 31st, 2018 but did not get reported to Gwinnett Police until November 19th, 2018 due to investigations.   Gwinnett Police verified the thefts and had the vehicles information entered into the state and federal crime computers.  This routine action automatically activated the Silent LoJack® System concealed in the stolen Toyota Highlander, the other vehicle did not have LoJack installed.

Within an hour a vehicle equipped with LoJack’s tracking system picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Georgia MCCD Police arrived and following the directional and audible cues from their PTC’s, the officers tracked the vehicle to the Midtown area of Atlanta. This area is mostly large high rise buildings with parking decks. After a short period of time Officers narrowed their search to a high rise apartment building with an 8 level parking deck attached. After searching the parking deck the vehicle was located on the top floor (8th level), unattended. The vehicle was in great condition and had been located within 2 hours of being entered as stolen.  Building security was advised of the situation and on the following day the second vehicle that had been taken by Identity Theft by the same individuals was recovered.

The investigation has continued and arrest warrants were issued for a suspect.

The Toyota was recovered with no damage and returned to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Highlander two days before the theft in Oct of 2018 at Atlanta Toyota dealership in Duluth, Ga.
