The owner of a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu contacted the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office, in Los Lunas, to report their vehicle was stolen.  The Valencia County SO verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Malibu.

Shortly after the activation, flight officers in Air-5 with the Albuquerque Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Malibu with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles and aircraft.

Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the flight officers in Air-5 tracked the LoJack signal to the area of Tome Hill in Los Lunas.  This information was relayed to the New Mexico State Police Auto Theft Unit.  The NM State Police Auto Theft Unit Agents and a Patrol Officer, all equipped with PTC’s, entered the area and also tracked the LoJack signal.  A Deputy with Valencia CSO, also equipped with a PTC, picked up the LoJack signal and joined the tracking party.

The Malibu was tracked to the area of NM 47 and El Cerro Loop where it was found to be parked in front of a residence.  The Malibu was occupied by two subjects and they both were taken into custody.  The Malibu was recovered and will be released back to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Malibu in April 2016 at Brad Francis Chevrolet in Los Lunas, New Mexico.
