The owners of a 2016 Toyota Corolla reported the theft of their Toyota to DeKalb County Police. DeKalb Police verified the theft and had the vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers.  This routine action automatically activated the  Silent LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

Within minutes a Trooper with the Georgia State Patrol picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from his PTC, the Officer tracked the vehicle to the eastside of Atlanta. The vehicle was still occupied and driving around while the Trooper tracked the car. Once the Trooper had eyes on the vehicle, the young driver parked the vehicle on a residential street and fled on foot. Although the suspect was able to get away, the vehicle along with the keys to it were recovered within 30 minutes of the vehicle being entered as stolen in the system.

The Toyota was recovered with no damage and returned to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota in March 2016 at Atlanta Toyota dealership in Duluth, Ga.
