The owner of a 2004 Toyota Sequoia contacted the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. The owner advised the vehicle was taken from in front of their residence in the 21000 block of Mission Boulevard.  The Alameda County Sheriff’s Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Sequoia.

A short time after the activation, officers from the Hayward Police Department were alerted to the stolen Sequoia by the silent LoJack signal from the stolen vehicle with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the stolen vehicle was tracked to the parking lot of a shopping center in the 100 block of West Tennyson Road, where the vehicle was found. A male was observed standing next to the driver’s door, but he then entered a market/tacqueria.  Surveillance was established, and a short time later, the same person returned to the Sequoia, opened the passenger door, retrieved an item and then went back inside the market.  Officers made contact with the subject inside the market, and he was found to be in possession of the key to the stolen vehicle. Security video from the market clearly showed the same subject driving into the lot and exiting the vehicle.  The subject had an extensive criminal history with multiple arrests for vehicle theft.  He was arrested and booked for vehicle theft.

The undamaged Toyota Sequoia was recovered by the Hayward Police Department and the vehicle was towed/stored for safe keeping, to be returned to the owner. The LoJack® System was installed in the 2004 Toyota Sequoia in January of 2004, at Hayward Toyota, in Hayward, CA.
