The driver of a 2018 Land Rover Range Rover contacted the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from in front of their home in the area of 5400 Malcomb Street NW in Washington, DC. District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Radio dispatched an officer from 2D to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and surveyed the area for the subject vehicle. Investigation found that the driver was using this loaner vehicle from a dealership and had left the keys in the vehicle overnight. The District of Columbia Metropolitan Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Land Rover.

A short while later, flight officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen 2018 Land Rover Range Rover with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the flight officers tracked the vehicle to the Baltimore Washington Parkway and John Hanson Highway in Capitol Heights, Maryland. At this location, flight officers observed the vehicle and as marked patrol units began to converge on the vehicle the driver fled the vehicle on foot. Flight officers above kept the driver in sight and patrol officers chased the theft suspect and arrested the offender after a short foot chase. The undamaged vehicle was recovered by police and the dealership notified.

Approximate value of vehicle: $66,750.00

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover in April, 2018 at Rosenthal Land Rover in Chantilly, Virginia.
