The owner of a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche contacted the San Leandro Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen in the overnight hours from in front of their residence on Saint Mary Street. The San Leandro Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche.

A short while later, a California Highway Patrol fixed wing aircraft was patrolling I-580 in the city of Oakland, when they were alerted to the stolen Chevrolet Avalanche by means of the silent LoJack signal from the stolen vehicle with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the stolen vehicle was tracked to a residential area and was found parked at the curb on Sheldon Street near 107th Avenue.  The Alameda County Regional Auto Theft Task Force was notified and investigators responded to establish surveillance on the unoccupied vehicle. After a period of time, no suspect(s) were located and the San Leandro Police Department responded to the scene to recover the vehicle.  The vehicle was processed for latent evidence prior to being returned to the owner. Police investigation continues.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche in January of 2005, at Cormier Chevrolet in Long Beach, CA.
