The owner of a 2006 BMW 750 contacted the Modesto Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen.  The owner advised the vehicle had been taken without permission by an acquaintance after a domestic dispute. The Modesto Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2006 BMW 750.

A short while later an investigator from the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force (StanCATT) was working in the city of Modesto when he was alerted to the stolen BMW 750 by means of the silent LoJack signal. The StanCATT investigator then tracked the stolen vehicle with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the stolen BMW was tracked to a residential area at 3rd Street near J Street, where the vehicle was found unoccupied.  Surveillance was conducted on the vehicle and a male suspect was observed entering the stolen BMW several times but he didn’t drive the vehicle.  Investigators continued the surveillance and observed the suspect enter a second vehicle as a passenger.  This vehicle left the area and investigators had a marked patrol vehicle conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident and was found to be in possession of the key for the stolen BMW.  The suspect also was found to have outstanding felony warrants for burglary and evading a peace officer.

The stolen BMW was recovered by the task force and the vehicle was towed/stored for safe keeping to be returned to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2006 BMW 750 in September of 2006, at BMW of Escondido, in Escondido, CA.
