A commercial equipment rental company contacted the Hayward Police Department to report that a 2017 Toyota Fork Lift had been stolen. The equipment had been out on rent and the renter advised it was discovered missing from a job site in the 31000 block of Huntwood Avenue. The renter related the fork lift had last been seen several days prior. The Hayward Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2017 Toyota Fork Lift.

A short while later, deputies from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Stockton Police Department began receiving the LoJack signal from the stolen fork lift with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, they were able to track the stolen fork lift to an industrial complex in the 2700 block of Boeing Way. Investigators from the San Joaquin County Auto Theft Task Force (Delta RATT) responded to the area and were able to determine the signal was coming from one particular vacant business. A search warrant was prepared and served on the business, and the undamaged stolen fork lift was found inside and recovered.  Investigation into theft of the fork lift and identity of the leaser of the business where it was found is continuing.

The stolen 2017 Toyota fork Lift was recovered by the Delta RATT investigators and the equipment rental company responded to the scene to retrieve the vehicle.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2017 Toyota fork Lift in April of 2017, for the commercial customer.
