The owners of a 2000 Volkswagen Passat contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen with the keys by a known acquaintance.  The suspect took the keys while the owner was sleeping.

The Phoenix Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen.

A short while later officers from the San Diego Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the vehicle to an area approximately 400 miles from where it was stolen from.

The stolen Volkswagen was located unoccupied by the San Diego Police Department officers.   The vehicle was recovered in good condition and processed for evidence.  The Volkswagen was impounded for safe keeping.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Volkswagen Passat in October 2004 at Berge Mazda – Volkswagen, Gilbert, Arizona.
