The owner of a 2017 Toyota Prius Hybrid contacted the San Ramon Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. The owner advised the vehicle had been taken from in front of their residence in the 5300 block of Cypress Hawk Court and that the vehicle’s ignition key fob had been inadvertently left in the vehicle.

The San Ramon Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2017 Toyota Prius Hybrid.

A short time later, an officer from the Fremont Police Department was directed to the stolen Toyota Prius by the silent LoJack signal received with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the stolen Toyota Prius was tracked to a residential neighborhood in the 2100 block of Harrisburg Avenue. A vehicle parked directly in front of the stolen Prius was found to be occupied by three persons. Upon contacting these persons, one was found to be in possession of the ignition key fob for the stolen Prius, and was arrested.  A second person in the vehicle was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and was also arrested.

The stolen Toyota Prius Hybrid was recovered by Fremont PD and the very happy owner responded to the scene to retrieve their undamaged vehicle.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2017 Toyota Prius in September of 2016, a John L. Sullivan Roseville Toyota, in Roseville, CA. The vehicle was then leased from John L. Sullivan Livermore Toyota, in Livermore, CA.
